Husband and I both ordered a filet mignon, I ordered the smaller cut, we both ordered it medium rare. My husbands was barely medium rare just in the middle, mine was clearly well-done. I never do this, but the steak was so over done it tasted nothing like steak, so I asked the waitress for a new steak, as the steak was clearly overdone. She came back and said the chef said I was wrong and the steak was clearly a "perfect" medium rare; mind you no part of this steak was red. I was then told according to the manager if I wanted a new steak I would have to pay for the new steak. I said I was amazed at this, but would eat my steak- I ened up barely eating half becasue it tasted so terrible- not to mention my appetite was ruined. My husband was furious, as was I. We got our check and I asked to speak with the manager. She came by and claimed to be unaware of the situation and said if I would not have eaten the steak they would have gotten me another steak. I was appauled and told her the waitress had told me that SHE (the manager I was speaking with) had said if I wanted a new steak I would have to pay for it. She never apologized but took the meal off our ticket...
All in all, a terrible Anniversary dinner and we will NEVER go back. What happened to the customer is always right? |

Two recent brunch visits to JJ's Upstream Restaurant revealed the difference service can make in a dining experience. On our first visit for Sunday brunch, our server was obviously overburdened with tables and struggling to provide first rate service. On a subsequent visit, also for Sunday brunch, the service was seamless, relaxed, and very pleasant. On both occasions, the food was absolutely marvelous. A roasted vegetable quiche was accompanied by hearty, seasoned potatoes and some very crunch wheat toast. The portions were substantial and satisfied our ravenous appetites perfectly. The highlight of the meal was a delightfully dry chardonnay from South America, which happened to be the wine special of the day. On our next visit, that particular vintage was, unfortunately, not available. The ambience at JJ's is at best on the San Juan River-side deck. Despite the fact that the water in the river is barely a trickle, the beautiful setting provides one of Pagosa's most memorable dining settings. JJ's is a special place for a special meal and we highly recommend it. Let's just hope the river level comes back up soon! Think Snow! |
