A question I am often asked in a conversation is who did you think has the best (whatever)? Well lets talk steak. Kansas City is known for BBQ but it also is known for steak. I have tried many of KC's steakhouses. Some are good, others are fair, and a few need to remove the word steakhouse from their advertisements as they serve grilled shoe leather. Well back to the best steak. I was taking a group of guest out for a dinner. I chose the Savoy Grill for this event for its history and reputation. I am unsure of all the different menu items ordered by my guest but mine was the beef tenderloin. The service was excellent and the food was top notch. Not one complaint from anyone at the table. My steak arrived just as I ordered it medium rare. I noticed a crouton under the steak to keep the juices from spoiling the appearance of the plate. I decided to remove the crouton. To my surprise, the fork striped right thru the steak. I had to really work on getting the steak off the crouton. The steak cut like butter and melted in your mouth. The steak had that flavor only a prime aged steak can have. I have eaten at hundreds of restaurants all over the nation but the best steak I ever had was at the Savoy Grill in Kansas City. |
