After reading a write up that bragged about the food, I went with a friend for lunch. The place is elegant. Both times, the service was good.
When I pay $8.50 for a "sirloin burger" I expect it to be something like you get at the Buckhorn (the only place in the area that knows how to make a hamburger.) At the Orchid, you get a machine stamped, perfectly formed piece of meat. On a nasty little bun that is tough and tasteless.
Friend ordered hers well and I ordered mine medium rare. It wasn't 5 minutes later that the two identically cooked (well done) sirloin burgers were presented at the table.
I have discovered that you just have to figure out what to order in each restaurant around here. So, on the next trip to the Orchid, I decided to get rrrreal adventurous and try the "Grill Cheese Sandwich". Comes with tomato and red onion. Also comes with the same nasty little bun that the Sirloin Burger does.
Friend had some sort of chicken salad and seemed to like it fine.
Now, people are telling me about their bad experiences there. I'll give it a couple of months and try it again. |
