Large portions, very fresh, and affordable--the menu is clear as to what's what. The place is geared towards the regulars (and those who can read menus) and those who know Italian food (food eaten by REAL Italians, not overpriced hauty-tauty views of what Italian food should be. |

The menu probably hasn't changed much since the 1950s and the vegetables are canned. They don't use many herbs and they don't offer good bread. However, Rhode Islanders seem to feel sentimental about this place because there is always a crowd. People seem to like the enormous portions, but there are so many better places if you want good food. |

As a Californian with (now ex-family) from Cranston, Twin Oaks was the place to go for the best baked stuffed shrimp anywhere. Yes, it was always crowded, yes it isn't the most inventitive, but it was always home. Thanks for the fond memories Twin Oaks! |

After hearing this was a place to go for great Italian, and being a fan of good Italian (both Northern and Southern), I couldn't help but be disappointed. First we waited 3 hours for a table, after being told half that. The place was smokey, even in non-smoking areas. The menu was Americanized-Italian: spaghetti and meatballs, rich tomato sauces. Uninventive, unremarkable. The food quality was at best very average. They messed up our order, and service was very slow. Salad lettuce was wilted. It struck me as a restaurant that uses a lot of canned ingredients rather than fresh. We were a little baffled as to why this restaurant was so popular and crowded. We'll go elsewhere in the future. |

I have been a fan of Twin Oaks for a number of years and have been away, due to traveling for awhile. What a disappointment on my return. This evening. I ordered off the special menu what I thought was a full meal (price $9.95 for crab cakes). That was all I got, three cakes. No salad, vegetable, potato, rice, etc. In other words, an appetizer for what I thought was a full meal. Needless to say, I was disappointed and found out, after the fact, that this was indeed an appetizer and, per the waiter should not have been on the special menu. Twin Oaks, you have disappointed me. I no longer feel your quality is outstanding for your price. Just look at the menu. You have, unfortunately, joined the pack. |
